From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. Those expecting to tune in and see Andy Murray cheering on his mother Judy in the Strictly Come Dancing audience, prepare to be disappointed.

The former Wimbledon champion said that he’d much prefer to unwind in the comfort of his own abode after six weeks of international tennis tournaments than sit on the sidelines of the BBC competition.

“I'm quite looking forward to getting back and being in my own bed and my home for quite a few days, rather than watching some very average dancing,” he told The Telegraph.

“I've only seen two of the dances, but she is having a good time - that's the most important thing. From what she's said to me, it's been the best fun she's had in such a long time, learning something new.”

He went on to heap praise on Anton du Beke, Judy’s professional dance partner, for being “loads of fun”.

“But for her it's tough on the body,” he continued.

“She's doing six hours of dancing three days a week to get ready and then they do the show.

“Being in heels and stuff - she doesn't normally wear them, she's normally in trainers. So for her it's quite tough physically, which I don't think she was really expecting.”

Andy’s brother, tennis player Jamie Murray, attended Strictly Come Dancing to watch his mother dance the Charleston last week.

Yesterday, Murray and Du Beke dazzled with an American Smooth. The judges awarded them 20 points for their effort.
