From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. Director Shawn Levy has revealed which character will be at the heart of Stranger Things season two.

Noah Schnapp, who plays Will Byers, may not have been granted optimum screen-time in season one considering it was centred around his disappearance, however, Levy confirms that his return from the Upside Down has seen an enlarged role for the character in the forthcoming episodes.

Levy told Mashable: “When we cast the kids, we cast Noah Schnapp as Will Byers knowing that he was only in a small amount of season one because he was missing. And we cast him because we knew that kid was special. Even if we weren’t going to call on his full reservoir of abilities in season one.”

“Will Byers is very much at the center of season two,” Levy confirmed. “Noah steps up in the most staggering way. The Duffers and I, depending on who’s directing when, we keep sending texts to each other going, 'holy shit, Noah is crushing it' and we knew he had it in him, and it’s really now to get in that moment, and put him firmly in the thick of story.”

Child actors Finn Wolfhard and Gaten Matarazzo recently stated they think season two of Netflix's hit series is better and scarier than the first.

Returning cast members include Winona Ryder, David Harbour and Millie Bobby Brown as the mysterious Eleven.

Stranger Things season two arrives on Netflix this coming Halloween (31 October).
