From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference.Silent Witness' Liz Carr has suffered minor injuries after being attacked outside of Euston station.
Carr, who suffers from Arthrogryposis Multiplex Congenita, a condition which impairs the development of joints and causes them to fuse permanently in the wrong position, was crossing the road with her carer when the attack occured.
A man wielding two pairs of scissors lunged at Carr as her carer attempted to defend her. Both were taken to hospital after the attack, with the two women now both recovering from minor cuts, her carer having also suffered a broken finger.
A friend told The Sun it was a "terrifying experience" for Carr, adding: "There was blood everywhere but she was very lucky that the wound grazed her head and she was not more seriously injured. Typically, Liz is putting a brave face on it — joking that it was like being attacked by Edward Scissorhands. She has no idea who he was and has never seen him before."
A Scotland Yard spokesperson said of the attack, which took place on 10 August: "A man - aged in his 20s - was arrested at the scene on suspicion of GBH. He was taken into custody at a north London police station. He was subsequently detained under the Mental Health Act."
Carr plays forensic examiner Clarissa Mullery on the BBC One series. She's also a stand-up comic, having previously worked as a researcher for Have I Got News For You, alongside her incredible work as a disability rights campaigner.
