From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Osbourne, who was part of the singing competition’s original judging panel when it began in 2004, will join the current run during the live shows as an “impartial judge.”
Despite this, Osbourne – who confirmed she has reached the “end of her contract” – launched an attack on the ITV series during an appearance on Howard Stern’s radio show, where she claimed that she wasn’t paid the same as her fellow judges.
“I have a clause in my contract: ‘favoured nations’,” she said. “So Simon goes to the press and goes: 'This is the best £10m I have ever spent [on the new judges]'... and I’m like, ‘OK, I have ‘favoured nations’: where’s my f***ing £10m?’”
"Favoured nations" is a contract provision in which a seller agrees to give the buyer the best terms it makes available to any other buyer.
The Independent has reached out to ITV for comment.
Speaking about Cowell specifically, she said: “I like Simon, he’s been very good to me. But he’s a f***ing pain in the arse. He will do whatever he has to do to get that f***ing fat face on TV."
Osbourne stated she's relieved to have bypassed the audition stages this year in favour of the live stages. “I don’t have to have those kids singing in my face,” she said. “They all suck, and it’s like, 'Is this karaoke or what?' It’s the end of my contract now. It’s no holds barred. It’s like, 'Get the f*** off the stage, you’re s**t'.”
The X Factor recently returned for its 15th series airing weekly on ITV every Saturday. This year's judging panel consists of Cowell, One Direction star Louis Tomlinson, Robbie Williams and Williams' wife Ayda Field.
