Shameless star Tina Malone has revealed she is five weeks pregnant at the age of 50 following successful IVF treatment.

The actress, who plays Mimi Maguire in the Channel 4 drama, announced the news on TV with her husband Paul Chase, 31.

Malone, who already has a 19-year-old daughter, said she was ready for any “pitfalls and problems”.

“I think it’s important that I’m much more healthy than I was 20 years ago,” she told ITV’s This Morning.

“I’ve had ECGs, I’ve had blood tests, we’ve had everything done. And physically, mentally, emotionally, and even financially, believe it or not, I’m better than I have been for 20 years.”

The couple do not know yet whether the two embryos implanted via IVF have taken, but Malone speculated that she might be expecting twins.

“I’ve got indigestion already which indicates a girl- but I’ve also put on about eight pounds around my back in four weeks, so that indicates a boy,” she said.

The actress added she would be “ecstatic” to have twins. “I would write books, cook in my country kitchen and bring my babies up,” she said.
