SAG Awards: Lena Waithe responds after Killing Eve star Sandra Oh pays tribute
Oh won for her performance in Phoebe Waller-Bridge's hit series

Lena Waithe has responded to Sandra Oh’s touching message of thanks at the Screen Actors Guild Awards.
Oh won Best Female Actor in a Drama Series for her role in Killing Eve and, during her speech, thanked her fellow cast members as well as three people who have inspired her over the years: Alfre Woodard, Jamie Foxx and Lena Waithe.
“I want to thank Alfre Woodard. In 1997 – she’s never going to remember this – she whispered in my ear, ‘I’m so proud of you out there. We fight the same fight,’” Oh recalled.
She continued: “Jamie Foxx, in 2006, pulled me aside and he said, ‘Keep going,’’ and in 2017, Lena Waithe, she just embraced me and said, ‘You’ve already won. It’s in the work.’ So thank you to my fellow actors.“
In response to Oh’s words, Waithe – the star and co-writer of Master of None – tweeted: “What a gift you are. Thank you for shining so bright. Your commitment to the craft is breathtaking. Congrats.”
