From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

The former Doctor Who screenwriter, 51, is on the hunt for volunteers to take part in light-hearted eight-part series Tofu, about modern sex culture.
He is keen to feature real-life tales submitted by members of the public, with each 20-minute episode focusing on a different topic from one-night stand apps and sexual taboos to housewives' secret exploits.
Viewers can expect sketch comedy, musical set pieces, interviews, animation and even a touch of fantasy.
Those interested in joining the project are asked to send in a short video, no longer than 90 seconds, which sees them regale Red Production Company with their best ‘sexcapade’.
The programme is open to all sexualities and genders, but participants must be aged 18 or over. Videos can be uploaded to the show's website.
"Men, women, every gender - all the pronouns! - trans or cis, straight or gay, bi, curious, maybe you're sex-obsessed or take-it-or-leave-it, or maybe you've - whisper the words - never had sex and aren't afraid to say so," said journalist Benjamin Cook, who will present the series.
"Smut, basically. It's about smut. We want to hear from you. No subject and no individual is off limits. We can't wait to hear your stories."
Tofu will serve as an online companion to Davies’ two forthcoming dramas, Cucumber and Banana. The stars of those shows will appear on Tofu, along with celebrities and porn stars.
Davies has explained that the aim of Tofu is to highlight “the very real issues referenced in the fictional shows”.
“While Cucumber and Banana are fictional, we know that often the sweetest, most heart-warming, most tragic and most heartbreaking stories are real life tales,” he said.
