From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. WARNING: This article contains spoilers for Riverdale season 3.

The mid-season premiere of Riverdale, titled “Chapter Forty-Four: No Exit”, delivered a massive shock ending for fans: Archie Andrews (KJ Apa) was attacked by a grizzly bear while hiding out in the woods.

Despite having his name cleared by Veronica Lodge, Archie is still on the run, having escaped from prison earlier on in the season.

Following the attack, Archie hallucinated himself playing Gryphons and Gargoyles with the boys he was accused of murdering, then with Warden Norton, who had tortured him in prison. He even saw himself killing Hiram Lodge.

Although we see him stumble back to his cabin and bandage himself up, his calls for help appear to have been too late. Archie is, as far as we know, dead.

That said, promos for season 3 have already shown scenes of Archie from later episodes, suggesting all may not be as it appears.

Still, the episode’s ending came as a major shock to fans.

Riverdale airs on Wednesdays on CW at 8pm ET/PT.
