From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference. It’s been a long time - almost a year-and-a-half - since the last canonical Rick and Morty episode was released by Adult Swim.
Ever since, fans of the cult cartoon have been feverishly waiting for some information regarding season three, but little has been revealed.
Earlier this year, a ‘sneak peak’ at the developing process was uploaded to YouTube, but no real look at the upcoming season was offered.
Speaking at Sundance (as picked up by IndieWire), creator Dan Harmon revealed why the season was taking so long to materialise.
"I'm so sorry", Harmon told the audience. "I don't have a release date for season 3. It's not that I know it and I'm not allowed to say it; it's [Adult Swim's] domain. What I will tell you is it's late because of us, it's late because of me."
"If Justin [Roiland, co-creator and voice of Rick and Morty] were here he’d agree. He and I would go, ‘Yeah, we f**ked up,' and it’s hard to put your finger on how we f**ked up. Rick And Morty keeps taking longer and longer to write, and I don’t know why.”
Due to the show’s growing fan base and acclaimed nature, the two co-creators have apparently been increasingly fighting: "We have fights all the time and then we have fights about why we’re having fights,” he said. “'Well, we didn’t fight during season 2, that’s why it’s taking longer! All this fighting! So OK, let’s stop fighting!'"
While being unable to confirm a return date - “we’re still deep in production,” said Harmon - the season will reportedly run for 14 episodes.
