From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

“Nine more seasons until I get that Szechuan dipping sauce, Morty,” ranted Rick during the season three premiere of Rick and Morty. “For 97 more years, Morty. I want that McNugget dipping sauce!”

Ever since those words were broadcast, fans have been dying to try McDonald's Szechuan sauce — originally only available in 1998 as part of a tie-in with Disney’s Mulan.

Rick and Morty creator Justin Roiland was sent a huge jug of the sauce earlier this year, posting a video of the creative team trying the fabled condiment.

Some other fans were also treated to jugs of the sauce, the DJ Deadmau5 buying one from a fan for an undisclosed amount after an eBay sale for $4,000 fell through.

Now — without having to wait nine seasons — the general public will have the chance to try McDonald's Szechuan sauce.

The fast-food chain’s head chef, Chef Mike Haracz Tweeted at Roiland: “Your fans showed us what they got, now WE got to bring it back. Super limited run Szechuan Sauce, only on [7 October]!”

A press release from McDonald’s has confirmed there will be “limited quantities for a limited run available” of the Szechuan Sauce on the 7 October in the US. The release ties into the launch of McDonald’s new buttermilk chicken tenders.

Meanwhile, the season three finale teased the fourth season, although we’re looking at a long wait until new episodes finally come. Read our review of the finale here.
