From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference. The West Wing star Richard Schiff has been transferred to hospital after contracting coronavirus.
The actor, who played White House communications director Toby Ziegler on the hit political series, revealed earlier this month that he had tested positive for the virus.
On Monday (16 November), Schiff, 65, disclosed that he is now receiving treatment in hospital.
“I am in the hospital on [antiviral medication] Remdesivir, O2 and steroids showing some improvement every day,” he wrote on Twitter.
The actor also thanked fans for their support and said that his wife, The Good Doctor actor Sheila Kelley, remained at home having also tested positive for Covid-19.
“Sheila is home and doing better but still fairly ill,” he wrote. “Love you all.”
Schiff starred in 141 episodes of The West Wing during its run on NBC from 1999 to 2006.
He recently participated in a scripted reunion along with the rest of the core cast-members, in an effort to promote voter participation in the 2020 US election.
Schiff was one of many West Wing alumni to throw his support behind Democratic nominee Joe Biden, now the President-elect.
