From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. Richard Madeley is being lampooned after going “full Alan Partridge” while interviewing a naked anti-Brexit campaigner on Good Morning Britain.

Producers invited Dr Victoria Bateman onto the show that currently has Madeley standing in for Piers Morgan.

Viewers were left cringing as Madeley awkwardly attempted to describe the graffiti a nude Bateman had drawn on her body that was blurred out by bosses.

Social media was afire with posts claiming that Madeley was speaking like a real-life version of Partridge, the beloved character played by Steve Coogan. One Twitter user branded it "TV gold".

“Richard Madeley interviewing a naked female lecturer on @GMB. Cancel the Alan Partridge comeback, this is all we need,” one Twitter user wrote, while another quipped that the presenter was “only a heartbeat away from asking someone to 'smell my cheese'”, which is one of the character's most famous quotes.“

Bateman recently made headlines after challenging Jacob Rees-Mogg to a naked debate.

You can see a selection of the funniest tweets in response to Madeley's interview technique below.

Partridge is set to return in a brand new six-part comedy series that will see him take on hosting duties for a live BBC programme promised to feature “a heady mix of consumer affairs, current affairs, viewer interaction, highbrow interview and lightweight froth”.
