From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

In March, Bilson, who starred in The OC, recalled being contacted by the Bohemian Rhapsody star after she posted an old photo of Malek on her Instagram.
The pair were once friends who attended the same high school, California’s Notre Dame, and the photo in question showed Malek sporting a gold chain. Bilson told a podcast that Malek sent her a private message a week after the photo was posted, asking her to take it down.
“It wasn’t like, ‘Hey! How are you?’ It was straight to: ‘I would really appreciate if you take that down. I’m a really private person,’” she claimed.
She continued: “I was like, I guess I should’ve found something more flattering. But I removed it and I even wrote to him a really nice message: ‘I’m so sorry. Go get the Oscar! You’re doing amazing.’ And I never hear anything back, which is fine. But I was super bummed because he was always so nice and we were good friends.”
In a new episode of the LadyGang podcast, Bilson said that the pair had made amends since the photo snafu.
“Rami and I actually have talked since that came out,” Bilson explained. “He connected with me, and we’re all good. He was so sweet and we’re totally fine now and we talked about it and we’re good.”
She added: “He was so gracious, and I totally understood where he was coming from and he understood me. And I was just so happy we were able to squash it and, like, move on.”
Bilson revealed earlier this month that she was “grateful” to date her OC co-star Adam Brody while working on the show.
She and her former OC co-star Melinda Clarke have also launched a throwback podcast, titled Welcome to the OC, Bitches!, in which the pair revisit episodes of the series alongside other cast members and writers.
