Your support makes all the difference.Marvel’s The Punisher has cancelled its appearance at the New York Comic-Con following the mass shooting in Las Vegas.
“We are stunned and saddened by this week’s senseless act in Las Vegas,” Netflix and Marvel said in a joint statement, picked up by Deadline.
“After careful consideration, Netflix and Marvel have decided it wouldn’t be appropriate for Marvel’s The Punisher to participate in New York Comic-Con. Our thoughts continue to be with the victims and those affected by this tragedy.”
The upcoming series features Jon Bernthal as the gun-toting anti-hero Frank Castle, also known as The Punisher, who previously featured in the series Daredevil.
Over the weekend, a gunman killed at least 58 people and left hundreds more injured after firing into a country music festival crowd in Las Vegas. The gunman has been named as 64-year-old Stephen Paddock.
Netflix has been teasing The Punisher’s release date for many weeks, redacting the exact date from promotional material. A preview of the series — which will run for 13 episodes — was expected at the Comic-Con.
The panel — which was set to feature Bernthal, Marvel TV boss Jeph Loeb, and others — was scheduled to run 5:15-6:15 on Saturday. Other panels taking place include Star Trek: Discovery and The Walking Dead.
“New York Comic Con wholeheartedly supports Netflix & Marvel’s decision to cancel Saturday’s The Punisher panel,” the team behind New York Comic-Con said.
“NYCC takes great pride in offering fans the best in pop culture programming and we are working tirelessly to fill that time spot at The Theatre at Madison Square Garden. We will continue to update fans via our social channels throughout the weekend.”
A release date for The Punisher has yet to be announced.
