Fox revealed at the Television Critics Association winter press tour (via Variety) that, according to president of entertainment Michael Thorn, “we are developing a new iteration of Prison Break. It’s in very early stages of development, but we’re really excited for it.”
What exactly that means is up to interpretation, but it seems to suggest that a reboot of some variation is in the works, similar to the revamp 24 had, seeing Corey Hawkins take over from Kiefer Sutherland as the show’s lead.
Thorn did state that he expects Dominic Purcell and Wentworth Miller to both return, but in what capacity is unclear.
“We just heard the pitch…a couple of weeks ago, an approach to the next chapter,” he added. “But we don’t even have an outline for the pilot yet. I fully expect both brothers will be involved in the series, assuming that they’re all available. There’s a lot to figure out when you’re bringing back the cast of a show where they all have busy careers.”
The fifth season of Prison Break aired for nine episodes beginning April of last year. The series saw Michael Scofield (Miller) resurface in Yemen under a new name, as his brother (Purcell) and compatriots risk life and limb to bring him back.
