The show promises to reunite 90s pop bands B*Witched, 5ive, Atomic Kitten, 911, the Honeyz and…er…2001’s Liberty X, giving us "friendship, heartache, scandal and double denim."
The ITV cameras will follow the stars through two intensive weeks of rehearsals, before they step back on stage to perform for the best part of a decade.
“The cameras will capture the highs and lows, tears and tantrums as each of the bands hope they can once again discover the magic that helped them adorn magazine covers, sell out multiple arena tours and top the charts back in their heyday,” states an ITV description of the show.
Some things have changed since the nineties. Boy band 5ive is now four after J decided not to take part in the show, but the Simon Cowell-engineered band are refusing to drop the name. “Westlife didn’t change their name when Brian McFadden left. Our catchphrase can be ‘5ive go four-ward’,” said band mate Scott Robinson.
The show will also highlight the emotional, often turbulent, life of stardom. Sean from 5ive confides to camera: “I remember looking in the mirror and thinking to myself, 'Who is that?' I didn’t know myself and I just had the strongest feeling that no matter what happens no matter how much money they throw at me I’ve got to find Sean. Otherwise I make thousands of pounds but I’d be spending it all on therapy.“
While Michelle Heaton from Liberty X reveals: “I was in this vicious circle of taking more diet pills, trying to lose weight but nothing was losing weight because I was so immune to the diet pills they wasn’t doing their job any more. I was just taking them because I was addicted them. I didn’t look healthy.”
The Big Reunion starts on ITV2 on Thursday 31 January.
