From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Poldark season two filming has just wrapped up, and with it, the BBC has announced when the series will return to our TV screens.

The broadcaster has confirmed that Aidan Turner will return as Ross Poldark on the 4 September later this year.

The first part of the ten-episode series will “pick up exactly where we left off from last year,” the actor confirmed earlier this year at the MCM comic-con according to Radio Times.

“So it’s a time when Ross and Demelza have just lost their child, his company is down the pan, they’re broke, and he’s been arrested. It looks like he’s going to prison. It’s a cheery beginning!”

Meanwhile, writer Debbie Horsfield recently dampened all hopes of seeing Turner with his short off once more, reminding viewers that “autumn is very chilly in Cornwall”.

When the first season aired, Turner garnered huge amounts of attention after the BBC published a photo of the actor shirtless in a field.

“Who knew that one photograph would go global and there wouldn’t be a day in six months when it wasn’t in the paper?” Horsfield added while speaking at a Royal Television Society event in London.

“Normally after a show has had its first episode you’re kind of begging the press to show a bit of interest. I don’t think any of us thought, ‘Wow, that’s going to be in every newspaper for the next year.’”

At the time, Turner criticised the BBC for releasing the topless photo, calling the decision “a bit strange”. It has also been confirmed that Poldark will return for a third season.
