Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference.Piers Morgan has received 312 Ofcom complaints over the course of four days.
The majority of those, 221, were for an interview with Conservative care minister Helen Whately that aired on Good Morning Britain last Tuesday (23 June), in which he stuck his fingers in his ears and refused to listen.
When Morgan’s co-host Susanna Reid tried to read out a government-issued statement, he said: "If they’re boycotting us, I'm going to boycott their stupid little statements.”
Many senior government ministers have boycotted the ITV morning show over Morgan’s interviewing technique.
In the same programme, Dizzee Rascal clashed with Morgan over a Black Lives Matter question. The rapper was praised by viewers for "totally owning" Morgan.
The incident is not the first time Morgan has left viewers disgruntled after an interview with Whately on GMB.
His conversation with the politician in April led to more than 3,200 complaints. At the time, Whately accused him of “shouting at me and not giving me a chance to answer your questions”.
There is an online petition calling for Morgan to be sacked, which has received more than 67,000 signatures at the time of writing.
