King said on CBS This Morning earlier this week that she called Meghan and Harry “to see how they were feeling” and reported that “Harry has talked to his brother and he has talked to his father too”, but “those conversations were not productive”.
Morgan took issue with King’s reporting and tweeted on Wednesday: “Hi @GayleKing – rather than acting as your Sussex friends’ PR mouthpiece to facilitate their ongoing public trashing of our Royal Family, how about doing your job as a journalist and ask them about all the lies they told in @Oprah’s interview? America should hear THE truth.”
King has not publicly responded to Morgan. The Independent has contacted King’s representatives, as well as Harry and Meghan’s representatives, for comment.
Morgan earned widespread condemnation for his comments on Harry and Megan’s interview. ITV announced earlier this month that the host would leave Good Morning Britain after storming off the set when his co-presenter Alex Beresford confronted him about his statements regarding the Oprah interview.
His comments about the interview yielded the highest number of Ofcom complains in the TV regulator’s history, with a total of 57,121 complaints for shows on 8 and 9 March.

King has been a co-host on CBS This Morning since 2012, in addition to her position as editor-at-large of O, The Oprah Magazine. She also hosts a weekly call-in show, Gayle King In the House, on SiriusXM.
King was praised in March 2019 for her handling of an interview with a combative R Kelly. The previous year, she spoke to Dylan Farrow in her first on-camera TV interview.
Other assignments have included on-the-ground reporting on immigration from the Texas border, and from Newtown, Connecticut after the 2012 Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting.
In 2019, King was selected as part of the Time 100, Time Magazine’s list of the hundred most influential people in the world.
