Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

Phillip Schofield’s wife Stephanie has spoken out in support of her husband after he came out as gay.

The This Morning presenter, who has been married to Stephanie Lowe for 27 years, came out last week in an emotional post on his Instagram account.

In the post, he said revealing his sexuality “caused many heart-breaking conversations at home” but his family have tried to “smother me with kindness and love, despite their own confusion”.

Now, Lowe has said: “I love Phillip, as much today as I ever have, and always will.”

She told The Sun: “We’ve been awestruck by the strength and love of our precious girls, even as they’ve been trying to make sense of it all for themselves. Our family have also been so supportive and will help us going forward.

“Although this is difficult for us all, I support Phillip in taking this brave step. I will still be there, holding his hand. Everyone should be proud to live their own truth.”

Ant and Dec, Holly Willoughby, Richard Osman, Dermot O’Leary and Victoria Derbyshire are among the celebrities to have publicly voiced their support for Schofield.
