From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Pop star Peter Andre is in mourning after his brother lost his fight with kidney cancer.

Andrew Andre, 54, died in the early hours of Sunday morning with the singer and the rest of his family at his bedside.

His parents flew to Britain from their home in Australia last week.

Andrew was diagnosed with the disease in February.

Earlier this month, Peter, 39, cancelled the remaining dates in his Up Close And Personal Tour when he was told that his older brother's health had deteriorated.

He moved Andrew, who had been having chemotherapy, and his brother's wife from Australia into his Surrey home so he could receive specialised treatment at the Royal Marsden Hospital in Chelsea, west London.

The singer's spokeswoman told The Sun: "Pete just can't speak at the moment.

"Everyone was at Andrew's side - his wife, daughter, Pete and their parents - the whole family.

"Andrew woke up, looked around at everyone to say goodbye, and then fell asleep. He passed away in his sleep. It was very peaceful.

"This is the first member of Pete's immediate family to pass away and he is obviously devastated.

"The whole family is in shock and need time and privacy to grieve."

The spokeswoman added: "It has all happened so quickly. This time last year he just thought he had a tummy ache. It's terrible."

Another brother, Michael, wrote on Twitter: "My brother Andrew lost his battle with cancer in the early hours of Sunday morning. We were all with him, holding him, till his very last breath. Absolutely devastated."

Mysterious Girl singer Andre, who has two children with ex-wife Katie Price, recently presented Bad Boyfriend Club on ITV2.
