From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Pete Davidson used his appearance on this week's Saturday Night Live to address critics commenting on the age difference between himself and new girlfriend Kate Beckinsale.

Beckinsale, the 45-year-old actor best known for her roles in period dramas (Emma) and action films (Underworld), was pictured last weekend kissing Davidson, 25, while sat at a New York Rangers hockey game. The image soon went viral, with many people pointing out the 20 year age difference.

Addressing the comments on SNL, Davidson observed how there are plenty of men dating younger women whose relationships do not cause a ruckus online.

“Apparently people have a crazy fascination with our age difference," he said.

"But it doesn’t really bother us, but then again, I’m new to this, so if you have questions about relationships with a big age difference just ask Leonardo DiCaprio, Jason Statham, Michael Douglas, Richard Gere, Jeff Goldblum, Scott Disick, Dane Cook, Derek Jeter, Bruce Willis, Harrison Ford, Tommy Lee, Alec Baldwin, Sean Penn and whoever the president of France is, Mel Gibson, Billy Joel, Mick Jagger, Sylvester Stallone, Eddie Murphy, Kelsey Grammer, Larry King, Larry King, Larry King, Rod Stewart and Donald Trump.”

Davidson has had a string of high-profile relationships, having last year been engaged to Ariana Grande. The singer later mentioned their relationship on the album Thank U, Next.
