After months of waiting, the BBC has finally announced when the critically acclaimed drama Peaky Blinders is returning.

The broadcaster revealed that we can expect to see Tommy Shelby back on our screens Wednesday, 15 November at 9pm.

Earlier this month, the first plot teasers were released, the series picking up six months after season three's conclusion.

The premiere will see Tommy Shelby receive a mysterious letter on Christmas Eve telling him the Peaky Blinders are in "danger of annihilation".

The tease continues: "As the enemy closes in, Shelby flees his country house and returns to the streets of Small Heath, Birmingham where a fight for survival begins…."

While the series has seen the Shelby clan dealing with Russians and considering expansion into America recently, the upcoming episodes look set to bring the focus back to Birmingham.

Cillian Murphy said of the fourth series: "In the classic gangster arc, the last season was sort of all about the wealth, the house and all that material stuff. This season is sort of a return to the roots. That's about as much as I can reveal."

New cast members include Adrien Brody and Aidan Gillen. Meanwhile, the Weinstein Company logo will be removed from the upcoming season following allegations against Harvey Weinstien.
