The agonising wait for Peaky Blinders' upcoming third season has been abated by the release of a full-length trailer.

Following on from last week's airdate announcement via the series' official Twitter page, the 30-second trailer teases the six brand new episodes fans have been awaiting for what feels like an age.

Cillian Murphy returns as Tommy Shelby with original characters Polly (Helen McCrory) and Arthur (Paul Anderson) also glimpsed in the clip.

Most excitingly, the trailer includes fleeting appearances of Tom Hardy - who reprises his role as the unpredictable Camden Town gang leader Alfie Solomons - and Paddy Considine's not-too-nice priest, a new character teased by creator Steven Knight as "a force beyond anything Tommy has previously encountered."

It seems the Shelbys have more to contend with than ever before.

The third season's plot synopsis previously stated that Murphy's protagonist would be going 'international', corroborated by the trailer hinting at the imminent arrival of "the Russians."

"They are very dangerous people," an unseen character warns Shelby. "So are we," he replies.

Peaky Blinders returns to BBC Two on 5 May after an 18-month absence from TV screens.
