The first trailer for ITV’s Paranoid, co-produced by the streaming service, looks promising. The gripping new series follows the aftermath of the murder of female GP Angela Benton, who is killed in broad daylight in a children’s playground in front of her three-year-old son Luke. We see a glimpse of the horrifying event in the teaser, followed by a hint at the complex web of intrigue that develops.
Before long, the detectives are taken unexpectedly across Europe, where they discover that the enemy they are fighting is worse than they could have imagined while also locked in battles with their various personal demons.
Downton Abbey’s Kevin Doyle stars alongside Game of Thrones’s Indira Varma, Doctor Foster’s Neil Stuke, Scott & Bailey’s Lesley Sharp and newcomer Dino Fetscher.
The acclaimed Bill Gallagher has penned the script, with eight parts set to air later this year before streaming internationally on Netflix.
“We’re really excited to be working with Bill Gallagher again,” said Nicola Shindler, director of Red Production Company. “He’s created a conspiracy thriller the audience won’t be able to look away from. It’s edgy, suspenseful and hugely ambitious as filming takes place in Cheshire and Germany.”
Producer Tom Sherry added: “Paranoid lays bare the human and emotional story of a group of detectives hell-bent on capturing a killer, but there are unexpected twists and turns every step of the way.”
Paranoid began filming in Cheshire, UK and Cologne and Dusseldorf, Germany in March and is yet to receive a release date.
