From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

The courtroom drama that unfolded around Oscar Pistorius’s murder trial will be the subject of a forthcoming BBC Three documentary, the broadcaster has confirmed.

Oscar Pistorius: The Truth will be the only programme about the case of the South African paralympic athlete.

The 60-minute special will give UK audiences an exclusive insight not just into Pistorius’s life during the trial, but also into that of the Steenkamp family.

Sam Bickley, BBC Three's Channel Editor, said: “BBC Three has a well-deserved, excellent reputation for award-winning, one-off current affairs programmes which manage to achieve incredible access to the big stories of the moment. Oscar Pistorius: The Truth - our second about this tragic case - doesn't disappoint.”

“As one of the most high profile trials of recent years, we felt it important to bring the Steenkamps' story to BBC Three, which broadcast one of the first documentaries on the case, days after Reeva Steenkamp was killed,” producer Steve Anderson added.

“I believe we've managed to capture a poignant story thanks to the honesty and openness of Reeva's parents.”

Oscar Pistorius was found guilty of culpable homicide for shooting his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp dead on Valentine's Day 2013.

The Olympic star faces up to 15 years in prison for the offence and five more for shooting a gun in a restaurant. He was acquitted of two other firearm offences.

He has been awarded bail until his sentencing begins on 13 October.

Oscar Pistorius: The Truth will air on Monday, September 15 at 9pm on BBC Three.
