Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

On Tuesday, the biggest names in British TV came together to celebrate the top actors, actresses and shows in the UK at the National Television Awards.

This year's awards show was hosted by Dermot O'Leary and took place at the O2 Arena.

The ceremony is the only TV awards show where votes are open to the public.

For its 23rd year in existence, the award known as the "Entertainment Show Award" was renamed "The Bruce Forsyth Entertainment Award" after Sir Bruce - a powerful figure in entertainment who died last August.

Throughout the night, awards were given to Broadchurch, Gogglebox, Emmerdale and more.

Emmerdale dominated the awards show this year winning Best Serial Drama, but its soap competitors also picked up accolades as well.

When Gogglebox won the Factual Entertainment Award, actresses Ellie and Izzy Warner dedicated their prize to the late Leon Bernicoff who passed before the holidays.

While accepting the award they said, “Wow, this is just absolutely amazing, it’s such a fabulous opportunity to be here I’d just like to say thank you to the NTAs for having us."

Additionally Broadchurch won for Crime Drama, and Paul O'Grady snagged the Special Recognition Award for his series For the Love of Dogs which shined a light on dogs that sought new homes at London’s Battersea Dogs Home.
