Your support makes all the difference.Daisy Edgar-Jones and Paul Mescal, the stars of the hit BBC romantic drama series Normal People, re-enacted a scene from Gordon Ramsay’s Kitchen Nightmares in the style of their show.
Appearing on The Late Late Show with James Corden, the duo were tasked with bringing Normal People’s loaded, sexually charged tone to a series of otherwise innocuous exchanges from daytime TV.
“The two of you have the most incredible chemistry together on the show,” said Corden. “It’s all anybody is talking about.”
“I wondered if you could keep that same intense romantic connection while performing scenes from other TV shows.”
Firstly, the pair tackled a clip in which celebrity chef Guy Fieri learns how to cook a hot mushroom sandwich, imbuing it with “all of the lust and intoxicating desire that Connell and Marianne have for each other”.
Mescal and Edgar-Jones then re-interpreted a clip from the Home Shopping Network, where a presenter was explaining the merits of joggers.
Lastly, the duo repeated the dialogue from Kitchen Nightmares, in which Ramsay harangues another chef for using canned crab. The performance proved a step too far for Mescal, who broke into laughter on the first attempt.
