From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference.Florida news anchor John Brown had a bit of a Network moment on FOX 35 News this week, launching into a rant about the vacuousness of the Kardashians.
After months of talking about Caitlyn Jenner’s transition, Kylie Jenner’s career and Kim Kardashian’s general day-to-day life at 8 o’clock in the morning, Brown reached the end of his tether, leaving his co-host alone on the sofa while continuing to rant off-camera.
“OK, I’m having a good Friday so I refuse to talk about the Kardashians today, you are on your own Amy,” he said.
“I don’t care! I’m sick of this family! I can’t take it anymore!” he continued. “It’s a non-story, it’s a non-story!” We’re talking about this family every freaking day on this show!” No one cares about this family anymore!
Half in jest, half genuinely incensed, Brown ploughed on.
“Do you listen to the research? Nobody cares about the Kardashians anymore! Nobody cares! We do it every day! Nobody cares about them, that’s enough of these guys!”
His rant was prompted by a guest bringing up Kylie Jenner naming her new rabbit Bruce. Perhaps exposing the falsity of showbiz news, she confessed to feeling the same way about the family.
“The sad part about it is I agree with you,” she admitted.
Brown was stunned by his new found fame, later writing on Twitter: “The #1 trender all Facebook today. This is surreal. I've never lived through anything like this.”
