From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Nick Grimshaw’s BBC 1 Radio breakfast show hasn’t been easy on the new X Factor presenter - back in May it was reported his show had reached a record low in listeners.

Things looking better now as the DJ managed to increase his listenership by 343,000 over a period of three months, starting in April. Total audience each week now totals 5.84 million, according to RAJAR.

Throughout the first quarter of this year, Grimshaw’s show had the lowest listenership for a BBC Breakfast show since Sara Cox in 2003.

Radio 1 controller Ben Cooper said: "This is great news for Grimmy and 1Xtra, however RAJAR only tells part of the Radio 1 story as it continues to innovate in reaching new audiences for the BBC in different ways.”

The overall audience for Radio 1 had dropped almost 1 million previously, but is now on the up as 737,000 people are tuning back into the station.

Cooper continued: ”I'm delighted that we are also averaging over one million requests a month on the Radio 1 iPlayer channel and over one million views a day on YouTube. Radio 1 will continue to bring new music, new presenters and new innovations to our young audience.”

Radio 2 also showed an increase in listers, with the Chris Evans breakfast show expanding to 238,000 listeners, giving the show an average listenership of 9.7 million.
