From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Probably due to the fact that Zooey Deschanel was pregnant during filming on season 5, Megan Fox is joining New Girl for a few episodes.

The actress will play Reagan, according to Deadline, ‘a gorgeous, straight-shooting pharmaceutical sales rep who comes to town on business and shakes things up in the loft when she rents out Jess’ (Deschanel) room while she is sequestered on jury duty.’

The Transformers actress, who showed her comic talents in Judd Apatow’s This Is 40, won’t serve as the central female figure until the sixth episode of the season.

“It’s insane to me that such a gorgeous person can be so funny, but I guess we just all have to accept it,” New Girl creator/executive producer Liz Meriwether said of Fox. “I’ve been a fan of her comedic skills since This Is 40, and I’m so excited to have her on the show. We had Megan in mind when we wrote this part – she’s the perfect person to come in and shake these guys up.”

New Girl’s last season saw controversial new opening credits, which looked a bit thrown together and even Deschanel admitted to hating.
