This election is still a dead heat, according to most polls. In a fight with such wafer-thin margins, we need reporters on the ground talking to the people Trump and Harris are courting. Your support allows us to keep sending journalists to the story.
The Independent is trusted by 27 million Americans from across the entire political spectrum every month. Unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock you out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. But quality journalism must still be paid for.

October continues a strong year for Netflix with the return of one of its most acclaimed shows of all time.
The streaming service has released its forthcoming schedule and it seems it's going to be a busy 30 days for subscribers with a bursting roster of original TV shows and licensed films, including recent releases and beloved classics.
Spearheading the big TV returns is true-crime documentary Making a Murderer just under three years before it first aired.
Filmmakers Laura Ricciardi and Moira Demos have been working on the new season ever since the first aired to critical acclaim in 2015. Ten new episodes will show off their exclusive access to Avery and his nephew Brendan Dassey as well as the legal teams fighting for justice on their behalf.
Part two will specifically focus on the post-conviction process, delving into the emotional toll the verdicts has taken on their respective families including Brendan’s mother, Barb.
Just in time for Halloween is new TV shows The Haunting of Hill House and The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina which sees Mad Men's Kiernan Shipka take on the role made famous by Melissa Joan Hart, while The Raid director Gareth Evans' new film Apostle sees Dan Steven take centre stage in a bloody revenge thriller.
Cult sitcom The Good Place will continue with weekly new episodes set to premiere in the UK the day after its US debut, just like Better Call Saul, which will continue to bridge the gap between Breaking Bad
Film-wise, there'll be a new crop to add to your list, including 22 July, director Paul Greengrass' depiction of a real-life massacre that rocked Norway in 2011. These include Platoon, Brad's Status, starring Ben Stiller, and all five Twilight films.
