The Golden Globe-winning political drama starring Kevin Spacey and Robin Wright will make a comeback in 2016, the same year as the next US presidential election, with both lead actors expected to return.
The news was announced via the show’s official Twitter account, which posted a photo reading “Season 4 Coming 2016’ above an inverted American flag. “I will leave a legacy. #Underwood2016,” the caption read.
Fans of the hit series will have been expecting a renewal, with showrunner Beau Willimon admitting to have been “secretly writing for months” with his team.
House of Cards follows the life and career of Frank Underwood, who has risen from Congressman to President of the United States by season three, which is currently streaming on Netflix.
Based on a BBC miniseries of the same name, House of Cards began in 2013 and became the first web-only series in history to win an Emmy Award that year.
