An original NCIS: New Orleans cast member has just been killed off in the sixth season of the show.

Following the shocking episode that was broadcast on Tuesday evening in the US (5 November), fans were in mourning for special agent Christopher Lasalle who was shot while tracking the drug ring he believed to be responsible for his brother’s death.

Lucas Black, who has played Lasalle since the very first episode of the procedural drama, shared a touching message with his fans on Instagram after the episode.

“Well, that’s all she wrote for Agent Lasalle,” he said. “But I wanted to take this time personally to thank all of you fans out there for your love and support. You were there to celebrate the victories and to pick me up when I needed it and I appreciate that.”

Black also reflected upon his time on the show in a special video released by US network CBS, and revealed the reason why he’d decided to quit the series.

“This job isn’t easy for me,” he said. “There are a lot of priorities in my life that get sacrificed for me to be here, but it’s time for me to focus on those priorities in my life.”

Showrunners Christopher Silber and Jan Nash said: “We had an amazing run with Lucas Black and he has been such an important part of our NCIS: New Orleans team. We are sad to see him go, but happy he will have more time to spend with his family.”

NCIS: New Orleans first aired in the US on 23 September 2014.
