Narcos producers José Padilha and Eric Newman recently confirmed the Netflix series would be returning for a third and fourth series, at least.

Just a few months after its second bowed on the streaming site, the cast has been announced for the next batch of episodes that'll focus on events following on from the death of Medellin cartel kingpin Pablo Escobar (Wagner Moura).

Kerry Bishe - best known for her work on Halt and Catch Fire - has joined the cast as Christina, an American woman whose Colombian husband is involved in the cartel.

Other actors to join the popular series include Michael Stahl-David, who appeared in David Simon miniseries Show Me a Hero, and Matt Whelan; the former will play a young DEA agent while the latter plays his partner.

While Pedro Pascal's return has been confirmed, it is unknown whether Boyd Holbrook will reprise the role of agent Steve Murphy.

Narcos season 3, deemed a "schematic sequel" by producer Newman, will arrive on Netflix next year.
