Crime series Mindhunter has officially been renewed for a second season by Netflix.

The series - three episodes of which were directed by Se7en and Zodiac filmmaker David Fincher - only recently arrived on Netflix with many already hailing it as one of the streaming service's must-watch shows.

Based on the book by Mark Olshaker and John E. Douglas, produced by David Fincher and directed by Asif Kapadia, the series has some big credentials - and fortunately characters and a story to back it up. Inspired by real-life criminal profilers - who interviewed a large number of America's most notorious serial killers as part of the FBI's Behavioural Science Unit in a bid to delve into their psyches to solve pending investigations.

The performances of Jonathan Groff and Holt McCallany scored rave reviews for their portrayals of the FBI agents inspired by these profilers, alongside Fringe star Anna Torv who played psychologist Wendy Carr.

The show featured the characters of several serial killers who are based on real-life figures including the murderer and necrophiliac Edmund Kemper, played memorably in the series by newcomer Cameron Britton. You can learn more about out how he assisted the FBI here.

Season 2 is strongly suspected to pick up on the serial killer expected to be revealed as Dennis Radar played by Sonny Valacenti in the opening to each episode of the first season.

Netflix's latest binge watch is eerie German-language series Dark which merges the genre of crime mystery and time travel. All episodes will be available to watch from Friday (1 December).
