Meghan Markle will leave Suits when season seven ends, ahead of her marrying Prince Harry.

US Weekly had reported the move ahead of the official announcement of the pair's engagement, only fuelling the longstanding rumours the announcement was imminent.

Their engagement was confirmed Monday morning, in a statement issued by Clarence House which read: "His Royal Highness The Prince of Wales is delighted to announce the engagement of Prince Harry to Ms. Meghan Markle."

"The wedding will take place in Spring 2018. Further details about the wedding day will be announced in due course. His Royal Highness and Ms. Markle became engaged in London earlier this month."

"Prince Harry has informed Her Majesty The Queen and other close members of his family. Prince Harry has also sought and received the blessing of Ms. Markle's parents. The couple will live in Nottingham Cottage at Kensington Palace."

Markle has played paralegal turned lawyer Rachel Zane on the series since 2011, which has amassed a significant fanbase.

Co-star Patrick J. Adams, who plays Mike, is also set to leave the series at the same time. "He was always leaving the show. He made his mind up a while ago," an insider stated. "Patrick wants to pursue other things and he’s realised his time at Suits has come to an end."

A source added that since there will be a wedding between Mike and Rachel at some point in the second half of season 7, that "will make it an easy break for Meghan to leave as well."
