From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Teaming up with Freeform, Marvel Television will release New Warriors, the studio's very first live-action comedy that will centre on six young people with powers.
Only one hero has been announced so far: Squirrel Girl (Doreen Green), a “tough, optimistic and a natural leader” who is acrobatic and can talk to squirrels.
Marvel’s Head of Television, and the show’s executive producer, Jeph Loeb said of the show: “’Marvel’s New Warriors’ have always been fan favourites and now particularly with the addition of Squirrel Girl, they are Marvel Television favourites as well.”
New Warriors marks Marvel Television’s second show with Freeform, the first being Cloak & Dagger which centres on the two titular character as they struggle with being adolescent superheroes.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Cougar Town’s Kevin Biegel has almost penned a deal with Marvel to write the script and serve as showrunner.
Karey Burke, executive VP of programming at Freeform told the publication of possible crossovers with Cloak & Dagger: “If you know these two properties, they're not particularly connected. There are many degrees of separation with where they fall in the Marvel universe.
“But anything is possible with Marvel. Their tones are so wildly different. Cloak is this angst-filled achingly beautiful heartfelt romantic drama. And Squirrel Girl is a balls-out comedy.”
Marvel’s New Warriors will reach Freeform in 2018, the cable channel - which is owned by the Disney-ABC Television Group - having ordered 10 episodes at 30-minutes each.
Meanwhile, Marvel recently announced the release date of The Defenders, their Avengers-style team-up that will see Iron Fist, Daredevil, Luke Cage, and Jessica Jones work together to defeat Sigourney Weaver’s unnamed villain.
Other TV shows Marvel currently has on the go include the upcoming Inhumans IMAX/ABC series, The Punisher, Agents of SHIELD, and Hulu’s The Runaways. Oh, and Legion counts as Marvel but isn’t part of the MCU due to ties with Fox. Come on, keep up.
