The Walt Disney Company’s 2020 shareholders meeting debuted a first look at The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, which is centred on Marvel Cinematic Universe characters played by Anthony Mackie and Sebastian Stan.
So, what happens in the footage? ComicBook.com broke down the moments shown in the clip.
Bucky – formerly known as The Winter Soldier – visits the villainous Zemo (Daniel Brühl), last seen in Captain America: Civil War, who is in prison. Bucky is investigating the super soldier programme, which has been restarted, and during their encounter, Zemo attempts to activate his brainwashing – but it doesn’t work as he had it successfully deprogrammed in Wakanda.
Zemo is later shown fighting while wearing his famous mask from the Marvel comics.
Another moment shows that the government are about to reveal their new Captain America following the departure of Chris Evans’ incarnation in Avengers: Endgame. Viewer are shown what is described as “a figure with the shield standing backstage draped in silhouette”.
The fact the identity of the new hero isn't shown seems to corroborate theories that it won't be Falcon, but Agent John Walker, a new character played by Wyatt Russell in the new series.
One other big moment worth highlighting hints at what will be a tense relationship between the Falcon and Bucky. It's reported that the, at one stage, the latter points out that they are not friends, but two people who had a mutual friend who now need to help each other out.
Earlier this year, set photos teased that this series could potentially introduce the X-Men to the MCU.
The series will be released on Disney+ this summer.
