Your support makes all the difference.Spy Kids and Sin City filmmaker Robert Rodriguez has revealed that he worked as a director on season two of the Disney+ Star Wars spinoff series The Mandalorian.
Next to a photo of himself posing with the “Baby Yoda” puppet, the director wrote on Twitter: “I am truly humbled to say I have now had the very rare privilege of directing the biggest star in the universe.”
The news came as part of a slate of Star Wars announcements timed to coincide with Star Wars Day, which is held annually on 4 May.
The biggest news of the day was that Taika Waititi (Thor: Ragnarok) has been signed to direct a brand new Star Wars film.
The as-yet-untitled film will be co-written by Waititi and Scottish writer Krysty Wilson-Cairns, who was recently nominated for an Oscar for her work on Sam Mendes’s war drama 1917.
Disney also confirmed that a new Star Wars TV series was in the works, to be developed by Russian Doll‘s Leslye Headland.
Like the forthcoming Obi-Wan Kenobi miniseries starring Ewan McGregor, and the Rogue One prequel series starring Diego Luna, Headland’s series will stream exclusively on Disney+.
The Mandalorian, which follows the adventures of rogue bounty hunter Din Djarin (Pedro Pascal) and a young child of Yoda’s species, has already finished filming its second season.
Rosario Dawson and Michael Biehn will join a supporting cast that includes Bill Burr, Gina Carano, Giancarlo Esposito, Emily Swallow and Carl Weathers.
Season two of The Mandalorian will be released towards the end of 2020.
