Perry died on Monday aged 52 after suffering from a “massive stroke”, his representative told The Independent.
The actor rose to fame in the nineties as Dylan McKay in Beverly Hills, 90210, and most recently played Fred Andrews in The CW’s Riverdale.
Ian Ziering, who portrayed Steve Sanders in 90210, honoured Perry’s memory on Twitter, writing: “Dearest Luke, I will forever bask in the loving memories we’ve shared over the last thirty years.
“May your journey forward be enriched by the magnificent souls who have passed before you, just like you have done here, for those you leave behind.”
Actor Molly Ringwald, who plays the ex-wife of Perry’s character on Riverdale, said her heart was broken upon hearing the news.
“I will miss you so much Luke Perry. Sending all my love to your family,” she added.
Screenwriter Joss Whedon, who worked with Perry for the 1992 Buffy the Vampire Slayer movie, tweeted: “The first time I met Luke Perry we talked about what kind of movie we wanted Buffy to be.
“I asked if he’d ever seen Near Dark and he gave me a look of HOW DARE YOU SIR and I knew we’d get along. Funny, committed, and always gracious. He shouldn’t be gone.”
The writers of Riverdale shared a message from their collective Twitter account, writing: “Luke Perry... you were a joyful and vibrant soul.
“You will be missed but most certainly your legacy will be remembered forever. Rest in love and peace, friend.”
The Big Bang Theory star Mayim Bialik shared a photo of Perry earlier in his career and wrote simply: “RIP Luke Perry.”
Jane the Virgin‘s Justin Baldoni also published a tribute for Perry, saying he was heartbroken and adding: “This can’t be real.
“Luke is one of the most kind, down-to-Earth and hard-working men in this business.
“Gutted for his family, and friends. He was so young. Damnit. Praying.”
GLAAD, an American non-governmental media monitoring organisation that promotes LGBTQ acceptance, also honoured Perry’s memory and described him as a supporter of the group.
“The news of Luke Perry’s death is absolutely devastating. He was a friend to our organisation and to the LGBTQ community,” the organisation wrote.
“Our hearts go out to his loved ones.”
