From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

One of this year's Love Island contestants is reportedly facing legal action after quitting her role in a West End musical days before entering the Spanish villa.

Musical theatre star Samira Mighty, 22, was part of the Dreamgirls cast at London's Savoy Theatre before appearing on the ITV2 reality series.

Theatre bosses were said to be left unimpressed when Mighty gave them one day's notice with The Sun reporting that company Sonia Friedman Productions are seeking £3,000 in compensation. Her name has been removed from the show's cast list.

“She won’t walk into a job any time soon,” an anonymous source told the tabloid. “Her name is mud and her behaviour totally unprofessional.”

Mighty - who claims to have once dated Wonder Woman actor Chris Pine - has previously appeared in the ensemble of West End production of Mamma Mia! as well as Disney's 2017 live-action remake of Beauty and the Beast.

Samira is yet to find love on the ratings hit but has established a friendship with popular contestant Alex George who found himself at the centre of a spat with model Eyal Booker over his coupling with new contestant Megan.

Samira and Alex face elimination tonight having been voted the least compatible couple alongside Hayley and Charlie.

We reached out to Sonia Friedman Productions for comment.
