From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Lost co-creators JJ Abrams and Damon Lindelof have responded to Evangeline Lilly’s recent comments on feeling “mortified” after filming a partially nude scene for the show.

Speaking to The Independent‘s Jacob Stolworthy on The LOST Boys (you can listen to the full podcast here), the Ant Man and The Wasp actress – who played Kate on Lost – said she felt “cornered” into doing a scene while working on season 3.

“I felt I had no choice in the matter,” she said. “I was mortified and I was trembling, and when it finished I was crying my eyes out and had to go on and do another very formidable and strong scene immediately after.”

Lilly continued: “So in season 4, another scene came up where Kate was undressing and I fought very hard to have that scene be under my control, and I failed to control it again. So, I said. ‘That’s it – no more. You can write whatever you want, I won’t do it. I will never take my clothes off on this show again’ – and I didn’t.”

Abrams and Lindelof have since issued a statement with fellow Lost executive producers Jack Bender and Carlton Cuse.

It reads: “Our response to Evie’s comments this morning in the media was to immediately reach out to her to profoundly apologise for the experience she detailed while working on LOST. We have not yet connected with her, but remain deeply and sincerely sorry. No person should ever feel unsafe at work. Period.”

Lost concluded in May 2010 with Lilly going on to have several high-profile roles, including Tauriel in The Hobbit trilogy and The Wasp in Ant-Man.

Meanwhile, Abrams is currently busy filming Star Wars Episode IX, Lindelof is working on an upcoming TV adaptation of Watchmen, Cuse acts as co-showrunner on Amazon's Jack Ryan series, and Bender has directed multiple episodes of Game of Thrones.
