The comedian has been sharing clips of that nature for a while, adhering to the same format: she films her television screen and provides running commentary on top of the footage.
Jones might express dismay at someone’s background (an increasingly relevant topic in the era of Zoom interviews), her outrage at the National Dog Show on Thanksgiving Day, or, more recently, at a video in which Donald Trump makes baseless claims about the 2020 presidential election.
Jones’s videos experienced a surge in popularity during the presidential race, with Jones expressing rapturous enthusiasm for the work of NBC journalist Steve Kornacki (who became a viral sensation through his coverage of the ballot count).
They have acquired a fan following on social media, where some have proclaimed her account what “will get us through the holidays” and what “saves me every day”.
On Thursday morning, Twitter users expressed so much enthusiasm for Jones’s commentary that the former SNL cast member’s name was trending on the platform.
“Can we just have Leslie Jones cover everything for us?” one person asked.
“Leslie Jones narrating the news is one of my new favorite things,” someone else wrote.
Jones has a history of providing her take on TV broadcasts. In 2016, she proved such an avid – and popular – live-tweeter of the Winter Olympics that NBC flew her to Pyeongchang, South Korea two years later as part of its Olympics coverage team.
