The eight-part series called Camping will be the first TV project between the two creative partners since Girls.
Dunham and Konner will executive produce the show through their company Casual Romance.
Garner’s appearance on Camping will be her first regular TV role since starring in ABC’s Alias from 2001-2006.
The series is based on the UK show created by Julia Davis that chronicles Walt’s 45th birthday and the restful trip in nature expected by his controlling wife Kathryn.
But the camping trip ends up bringing together Kathryn’s sister, perfect ex-best friend and a free-spirited third-wheel which makes for marriage chaos and catfights.
Davis will executive produce the series alongside Christine Lanegan and Ilene S. Landress.
Garner will take on the role of Kathryn whom Dunham and Konner describe as “messy, tough and provocative and really really fun. We love Jennifer’s restraint and comedic timing, and we can’t wait for the warmth and intelligence she’ll bring to our central character, Kathryn. It’s truly a dream to have her first on our call sheet. Now we just have to write her some stunts.”
The news of Dunham and Konner’s latest project comes just three months after the duo came under fire for denying sexual assault allegations against Girls writer Murray Miller.
Dunham had issued a statement on behalf of her and Konner saying, “During the windfall of deeply necessary accusations over the last few months in Hollywood, we have been thrilled to see so many women's voices heard and dark experiences in this industry justified. It's a hugely important time of change and, like every feminist in Hollywood and beyond, we celebrate. But during every time of change there are also incidences of the culture, in its enthusiasm and zeal, taking down the wrong targets. We believe, having worked closely with him for more than half a decade, that this is the case with Murray Miller. While our first instinct is to listen to every woman’s story, our insider knowledge of Murray’s situation makes us confident that sadly this accusation is one of the 3 percent of assault cases that are misreported every year."
Their stance became controversial and Dunham ended up apologising.
