From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

A former co-star of Lea Michele‘s has spoken out in criticism of the Glee star.

Craig Ramsay, the Broadway actor who co-starred with Michele in Fiddler on the Roof in the early 2000s, described Michele as a “despicable human being”.

Speaking on the Behind the Velvet Rope with David Yontef podcast, Ramsay also claimed that Michele was “one of the most entitled people” he had ever met.

“I just didn’t want to hear Lea Michele’s name in this interview – at all,” he said. “I think she’s a despicable, horrible human being.”

“I think she has lost touch with reality,” he added.

Ramsay claimed to have been in the room when Michele was told she had been cast in Ryan Murphy’s hit musical TV series, saying that “she was possessed with this”.

The actor is one of several people to have recently criticised Michele, beginning with Glee actor Samantha Ware, who claimed that Lea “made her life a living hell”.

After Ware’s statement was made public, Michele released a statement about her behaviour on Instagram, writing: “Whether it was my privileged position and perspective that caused me to be perceived as insensitive or inappropriate at times or whether it was just my immaturity and me just being unnecessarily difficult, I apologise for my behaviour and for any pain which I have caused.”

Trans model Plastic Martyr also recently alleged that Michele made her feel like a “circus freak”, while she was transitioning.

The Independent has contacted Michele’s reps for comment.
