From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Cruise singer crooner Christopher Maloney looks set to be replaced by fellow contestant Kye Sones on the 2013 X Factor tour.

The show’s bosses are due to meet today to decide Maloney’s future on the tour after his alleged behaviour on Sunday’s final, The Sun claims.

Maloney, nicknamed ‘Baloney’ for his cheesy singing, allegedly swore and abused fellow contestant Carolynne Poole at the X Factor after party on Sunday.

He didn't appear on Sunday night’s final for the group performance after being voted off on Saturday night, claiming to have a sore throat.

Winner James Arthur, Union J, Rylan Clark, Ella Henderson and ex-winner Olly Murs have all tweeted “#getkyeonthexfactortour”.

Insiders have claimed that they are “90% sure” that Maloney will not be joining the tour. A source said: “The other contestants have made no bones about the fact Kye was one of their best friends on the show and they would love him to tour.

“Nobody got on with Chris after his outburst against Carolynne on Sunday, everyone is furious with him. They can’t bear the thought of having to tour with Chris while Kyle misses out.”

Maloney, who was a firm favourite with fans after it was revealed he topped the weekly vote for eight weeks, said on Twitter he was the victim of a “witch hunt”.

The lucrative tour will also feature Jahmene Douglas and District 3.
