From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

Kim Kardashian has shared a video of her tearful reaction to her birthday present from Kanye West.

For the reality star’s 40th birthday last month, the rapper bought her a hologram of her late father, Robert Kardashian.

At the time, Kardashian described it as “the most thoughtful gift of a lifetime" and a “special surprise from heaven”.

The hologram speaks for around three minutes, directly addressing Kardashian and her decision to become a lawyer “and carry on my legacy”.

Now, in a since-deleted video from Kardashian’s account – which has been reposted by a fan –  the star and her sisters Khloe, Kourtney and their mother Kris can all be seen wiping away tears after watching the hologram.

Kim appears to have been on the phone to West at the time, and she tearfully thanks him for the gift.

It’s not the first time that a celebrity has been resurrected via hologram, with Amy Winehouse, Tupac, and Ronald Reagan all having appeared in this form for exhibitions or live shows in recent years.
