From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Katie Hopkins, Ant and Dec and Boris Johnson have all been given a new look for ITV’s Spitting Image-inspired satirical show Newzoids.

Professional motor mouth Hopkins is pictured as a ‘media whore’, seen squatting on the kerbside in a leopard print dress holding a handful of ten pound notes.

She is joined by Boris Johnson swaying his Rastafarian-like blonde locks, Nigel Farage clutching a pint of real ale and Ant and Dec looking gormless in the Australian jungle.

Prince Charles and Camilla Parker-Bowles' puppets take inspiration from Gogglebox’s Steph and Dom, who are pictured watching TV together with a bottle or two of champagne.

Newzoids promises a “biting look at the world of politics and celebrity” and will include impressions by Spitting Image veterans Jon Culshaw and Debra Stephenson.

The six part series will imagine a world where David Cameron and Nick Clegg battle it out on Jeremy Kyle, Ed Miliband joins Ant and Dec on I’m A Catastrophe! Get Me Out Of Here, and Professor Brian Coxs finds an extraordinary new planet in Kim Kardashian’s backside.

The show will mock a host of other famous faces including Wayne Rooney, Andy Murray, Harry Styles, Nick Clegg, Barack Obama, Russell Brand and Simon Cowell.

Spitting Image, which ran for more than a decade, was of the most-watched shows of the Eighties and Nineties.

Newzoids is co-produced by Citrus Television, which was set up by another Spitting Image alumnus Giles Pilbrow.

Elaine Bedell, director of entertainment at ITV, said: “ITV has a rich history of playing popular satirical comedy in peaktime on its main channel, and it seemed a good time to revive it this year.

“We are pleased to be adding to our growing comedy portfolio with this funny and biting look at the world of politics and celebrity.”

Newzoids begins on ITV on Wednesday 15 April.
