From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. Judge Judy Sheindlin has announced that her long-running court series is coming to an end after 25 years.

The television personality broke the news on The Ellen DeGeneres Show, but also used the chance to explain she would not be leaving screens anytime soon.

According to Sheindlin, 77, CBS pulled the plug as the network felt it had enough episodes to warrant simply repeating the show.

“CBS sort of felt, I think, they wanted to optimally utilise the repeats of my program,” she said, adding: “What they decided to do is sell a couple of years’ worth of reruns. But I’m not tired, so Judy Justice will be coming out a year later.”

She said: "I've had a 25-year marriage with CBS and it's been successful."

Judy Justice will follow one final season of Judge Judy, which will be shown in 2021. It will be shown on a different network.

Meanwhile, Judge Judy will remain available to view on the same channels that currently broadcasts it globally.

Judge Judy was most recently renewed in 2018 in a deal that reportedly paid Sheindlin $47m (£36m) a year.

When DeGeneres admitted she was impressed with Sheindlin's energy, the TV judge responded: "If you’re not tired, you’re not supposed to stop.”

Judge Judy is shown in the UK on ITV2.
